The day has finally come. We knew it was just a question of time. Afterall there are very few copy protection schemes out there that have remained unbroken.
The first rip of a protected HD-DVD (other rips of HD-DVD have been out for a while, but they weren’t protected in the first place) has made its way onto Bit Torrent and other P2P sites. It does beg the question why Hollywood even bother ;) Some more thoughtful comments to follow…
no analogue output because Hollywood won’t let them… effectively making this device useless to people with normal TVs
no 1080p output
requires iTunes to work properly
£199 for a box that quite frankly just plays back content, Xbox Media Centre is a far better, more feature rich and cheaper (unfortunately requires xbox modding though), there are however other alternatives
only allows you to play movies available via the iTunes shop or accessible via iTunes, to my knowledge this includes home made movies, divx, xvid, etc.
iPhone
Pro:
beautifully thought out UI
wifi connectivity (bluetooth too, but that’s expected these days)
I found this interesting account of a couple motorcycling in Iran on the HorizonsUnlimited website today. Reading it makes me want to hop on a BMW 1200GS and disappear for a long long time…
The girl is actually an actress just reading lines… good though :)
Trust the americans to turn it into something it’s not! I can’t quite see how this could be considered child abuse. It’s not as if she’s been tought any new words she doesn’t already know :) Naturally if I was a father I may see it differently.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjc9g1-4ytI
I’m considering entering the Tough Guy competition next January (07). After having run a fun 8 miles at last week’s Grim Challenge, I’m longing for more.
I can’t quite work out if its my current state of madness or if it is genuinely a good idea. Running 10-12 miles cross-country with ‘dangerous’ obstacles can’t be a good idea, no matter what your mental state :).
www.toughguy.co.uk will give you a better idea of what to expect if you do enter it. My favourite obstacle at the moment is ‘The Behemoth’.
